I Really Am the Worst Cookie-Maker. Ever.

This is a pretty good sampling of how the cookies turned out.

Totally flat.

DESPITE the fact that I used baking soda (instead of baking powder, which I have done before).

I was so excited to use my new kitchen things. I wore my flirty apron (from my husband), used my cooling racks and stirring spoon (from my mother-in-law), and my new spring-y oven mitt (from my mom). How could these cookies go wrong??

Well let me tell you. The first batch ended in flat cookies with burned edges.

So I switched to a lighter pan, tried rolling the dough into balls, and turned down the oven.

Flat. And stuck together. And not cooked all the way. (But not burned!)

So, I made smaller cookies, placed a pan under the cookie pan to create some air ventilation and prevent burned cookies, turned up the oven a little, and still flat.

There is a point, I think, when every good cook questions her abilities to bake cookies, and wonders if she is ever meant to make a good cookie.

Friends, I hit that point. I wondered if I'd left out an ingredient--like maybe flour. Or over-did the butter.

Nope. All as the recipe required.

EXCEPT!

I failed to notice the high altitude recipe--which significantly changed half the recipe.

So, my cookies are a fail. At least they're good frozen!

PLUS

I got my hair cut today. I was never meant for long hair.

(Look, Bones likes it, too!)

This was too cute. It made me laugh at the end. :)
I say it's the recipe. There are so many different ones out there. You'll find just the right one for you.

Love, Love, LOVE the hair!

And actually, even though you said it was flat, the cookie looks tempting to me!
You need to try a good recipe. Was this a recipe from someone you know? Have you tasted the finished product previously?
Want to try my PB and kiss cookies? They are always wonderful, at Sea level or high altitude!

Confession: I have only ever used the recipe on the back of the Nestle chocolate chip bag. I'm definitely willing to try a new recipe--especially the PB and kiss cookies! Aunt Mar, send the recipe my way!

I am a cookie making fanatic and here is what I would try... use half shortning and half butter and add about a half cup of flour - yes above what the recipe calls for. If the first batch is still flat add more flour... On the other hand you can heat up those cookies and put them under a scoop of ice cream, yummmmmmm.

Here you go!

1 c butter (real)
1 c peanut butter (I choose JIF)
2 1/2 c flour
1 c sugar
1 c brown sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp baking soda
1 tsp baking powder
1 tsp vanilla

Bag of Hershey's kisses

Beat together butter and PB til creamy. Add 1 c flour, beat. Add eggs (one at a time) and beat. Mix in baking soda and powder, then vanilla and beat until combined. Add remaining flour, beat slowly to combine. (I use a large scoop for the cookies).
Bake at 375 degrees for approx 9 min. The time will depend on the size of your cookies and if your oven is on temp.
Take cookies out of oven AS SOON AS they begin to crack. (You will see what I mean as you watch them). Don't flatten these with a fork.
Add kisses to the cookies while still warm.
YUM!!

If you are worried about baking cookies, try No Bakes! Ha, ha!

Here's a recipe for those too!

2 c sugar
1/4 c cocoa
1/2 c milk
1/4 c butter
1 tsp vanilla
pinch of salt
1/2 c nutella (or PB)
3 c quick oats

Mix together in saucepan: sugar, cocoa, milk, butter. Heat to boil.
Cool 1 min.
Add rest, stir well.
Drop onto wax paper or parchment, let cool.
(Then snarf them down!)

You laugh at me, Aunt Mar, but I tried No Bakes my sophpmpre year . . . and disaster struck. I don't know how I ruined them, but they were my biggest failure yet.

I might just have to stick with Rice Krispie Treats. Those I have made successfully.

Hey I have a no bake cookie recipe too! It's pretty much the same as Aunt Mar's. But substitute the milk with almond milk and the oats for wheat/free gluten/free rolled oats and add a sprinkling of cinnamon. Yum!! They are super good and I don't have to suffer for them. Well.... Maybe my waistline suffers... ;)
