I thought I'd start easy, with some no-bake cookies.
And, my dear friends, these delicious cookies are cooling as I write to you!
I followed my Aunt's recipe . . . and they are (appropriately) very rich.
But, an unexpected thing happened to me as I was making these cookies.
I began thinking of my first try, during my sophomore year, at making these no-bake cookies on my own--and the powdery disaster they turned out to be. As I thought about sophomore cookies, I remembered some very delicious seven-layer cookies one of my old roommates was a pro at making.
Now, this roommate and I did not quite get along. (She liked a young man who happened to like me, even though I had decided I wouldn't date him anymore. This whole situation caused a TON of drama.) In fact, by the end of our time living together, I did not care to ever see her again. Our friendship was for show. We were civil to each other because we are nice people, but we didn't care for each other.
But, in thinking of her amazing multi-layered cookies, I couldn't help but feel a surge of warmth toward her. Remembering those cookies reminded me of some very good times we had together.
And for the first time, in a long time, I didn't feel any bitterness in thinking of her. I can honestly say that I really do wish her well. She's still not my favorite person, but I no longer get that bad-taste-in-my-mouth feeling when I think of her.
Aunt Mar, your no-bake cookies are clearly the-miracle-of-forgiveness cookies. I'll just call them miracle cookies for short.
