So. . . yesterday's adventure, I think, would be labeled as a fail.
Tyler said the stew was pretty good. He liked it.

But I didn't.

I mean, I liked the veggies and the broth. . . but the meat! BLECH! I bought meat that was pre-cut into stew-size pieces. But when cooked, the chunks were just too chewy! I told Tyler that when I had to chew meat for that long, it stimulated my gag reflexes.

So, I carefully avoided the meat.

Suggestions? What kind of meat is best for stews? And how do you get it to be fall-apart-in-your-mouth good, instead of chew-until-your-jaw-retires gross?

The rolls turned out all right. They seemed a little doughy; not my best, but still good.

Any suggestions for fun recipes for next week? I need to make up for Sunday's less than successful venture.

I know what you mean about tough stew meat. But cook it all in the crockpot and the meat will come out so tender and fall apart every time. Or if you don't want to use a crockpot, you can put a lid on it and cook it in a very low slow oven. Stew is a great Sunday meal because you can come home and it is all ready and waiting for you. I always buy the little stew meat too all cut up like you did. Then I cut it up even smaller so it will cook faster and more tender.
This was fun...I hope you tell us more about your cooking adventures.

I agree with Jill about the crockpot. Works like a charm! Good for you to keep on trying. I love to cook, but it has taken years to really figure out a lot of different things. I'm still learning new things every day!
