Finally Friday! and Misc.

I cannot tell you how excited I am that it is finally Friday! (Afternoon that is...)

Ugh. Last night, I kept telling myself, "I just have to get through Friday morning... then I can breathe!"

And here I am! Feeling like I finally have a break!
Tonight, Tyler and I are going to go watch Divine Comedy!!

And tomorrow, I'm going to write a 1,000-word essay for my Contemporary American Literature class.
And do research for my conference papers.

Sunday will be new skirt day!!

You see, I've been needing a long skirt... ever since I came up to BYU. I don't have one... And winter gets pretty cold.
But while I was in the bookstore yesterday, I saw a long black skirt that I instantly loved. I normally don't buy things which are not on sale, but I took such a liking to it. I HAD to try it on.
Now, I don't have a perfect figure by any means, and the skirt doesn't do a whole lot to improve my figure... but... I just liked it so much. And Tyler liked it, too. So, I figured that it mustn't be that bad.

So, I took it up to the cashier, who was an older woman... Possibly in her late sixties. She loved the skirt. So much so that she said she wanted to get it for herself. She put it up to her body, and just gushed over it. In my mind's eye, I could easily see her wearing it. My instant reaction: AAAAHHHH! I can't wear that! She is going to get her own skirt just like this one, and it won't look out of place on her!!! I can't wear an old lady skirt!

---Side note/background: When I was younger, and Mom and I would go shopping together, it was a rare item of clothing that she would pick out that I would like. Very rare. In fact, we stopped shopping together because our tastes and styles were so different.
I am glad to report that this was not a rough experience, but a good one. And also, that Mom's style has started to develop. (In other words it is becoming more like my own. She really listens to the advice that I have to give, and often asks my opinion. I love that!)

So, all of this-- memories of mom, my gut reaction-- all whirling through my brain. Somehow, I pay for the skirt, and Tyler and I leave the bookstore.

And then I start looking for an excuse to return it. With tax, it was twenty-six dollars. Can I really afford that? That's I've undergone two winters without long skirts so far.. I don't NEED one, right? I won't die if I don't have it.

But here's the kicker: I've already planned out various outfits I can put together with the skirt. It will work with almost anything, and can be dressed up or down.

And I really like it. It has little eyelet flowers all over it. (I think that's how to describe it.) And I love feminine touches like that.

Maybe I'm just an old woman at heart. Maybe my sense of style is not what it used to be.
Maybe I don't actually have style.

But whatever the case, I'm excited to wear my new skirt.

We need to see a photo of the skirt...preferably with you in it!
And how was the (a little older) lady dressed when you saw her? Maybe she has young and hip taste! There are those women out there you know...(although some of them go too far with that and need to let it go and realize they are now old).
Back to the skirt, it sounds cute, and what could be "old lady-ish about a basic black skirt? Just pair it with something fabulous on top!
Besides, it isn't the skirt that makes the girl...

Love you,
Aunt Mar~ (or Jane the Plumber).

I like your background. And I'm sure you'll look super cute in your skirt. I'm less worried about your skirts getting longer than I'd be if they were getting shorter...

When Dennis got home last night I shared this post with him. He read it and said at least twice, "I like this girl. She knows the value of a dollar."
And don't worry about the age thing. Black skirts are one of those items that are universal for all ages. Just don't wear it in that bookstore next to that older lady and you will feel great about it. :)
