Adventures in Zoobie-land

My first Friday night at school...

We had a slight adventure.

This afternoon, the roommates and I decided to go ahead and catch an early movie. We decided that when we got home from the movie, we could see if anything was happening here in Park Plaza.

But alas, nothing was.

Not to be discouraged, Michelle, my roommate and I, decided to go for a walk and explore a little bit. It was an absolutely gorgeous night, if a little dark.

As we explored the park behind our apartment complex, we noticed a large empty field, with something gleaming in the center of it. Naturally, we decided to explore.

We had no idea what was to come.

The gleam from the center of the field began to take shape as we approached it... we drew nearer and nearer, only to discover.....

PVC pipe. Reflecting light from floodlights in the distance.

We were a trifle disappointed at our anticlimactic discovery, and decided that it was time to exit the field. As we searched for an exit near us, I realized that my flip flops were not providing proper protection... there were stickers all over the field!!

I gingerly walked to the fence in front of me, hoping to find an exit, but there was nothing! No way out!

I had two options. I could again cross the minefield of stickers, and endanger my feet... or I could hop the fence, and escape the danger of the thorny field.

Clearly, I had only one actual choice.

So, we hopped the fence. Or rather, we hoisted ourselves over the metal fence intended to secure the field from tresspassers such as ourselves.

As we walked into the light, I could bear the pricking in my feet no longer! I took off my flip flops and discovered that I had taken half of the minefield with me.

Michelle and I walked up to the light of our apartment, and removed each sticker from my shoes. (We must have looked awfully strange...)

Having had enough of adventures, we headed home for the night to relax and enjoy our first Friday night in our new apartment.

OUCH!

I believe I know of which sticker weeds you are referring...goat's heads!

They are horrible!

We had to contend with them when we lived in CO. There, they are considered a noxious weed and are not legal to have growing on private property. That was a fact that I had to learn the hard way.

I was pregnant with Smash; it was mid-July, I was still losing my cookies and I was huge, (he was due in Aug). One really HOT afternoon, a weed-nazi (don't know the proper title) came to my door and told me that I had to get rid of those weeds that weekend or I would be fined 300 dollars. Well, we didn't have 300$ to spend on weeds and with Jonathan out of town, that left me to clean them up! Needless to say, I despise those weeds!
And, I had a few choice mutterings under my breath at the weed-nazi as well.
I still question that encounter...
HUGE pregnant lady in the middle of July, clearly still losing cookies, hubby out of own, crying profusely when told that she would be fined if she didn't get rid of the weeds that were there l o n g before she ever moved to the property...yet the law NEEDED to be enforced, hmmm...

I am so sorry that you too have had a RUN in with those noxious and illegal weeds!
