Sours: The "Immature" Candy

that may also give you cancer?

Well, according to one McKay Heasley, sour candy is both immature and probably gives you cancer.

Which is too bad, because it's my favorite kind of candy.

It also happens to be McKenna's favorite (I think).

So anyway, funny story:

Yesterday, after I got off work, Tyler and I ran to our local Smith's store to grab a few groceries. While there, I decided that I really wanted to get some Sour Straws (both strawberry- and apple-flavored). When we got to the candy aisle, Tyler and I noticed that there were only two packages left of the sour-apple straws (McKenna's favorite). As I looked at them, I thought, "Heh, we should buy both, so McKenna can't find any." Tyler had exactly the opposite idea. He decided, "Hey, we better leave this here so McKenna can get it later." (I didn't really want to buy them both, and I did think about giving her one of them if we did buy them--I'm not totally evil. But I did think it would be funny if there weren't any of McKenna's favorite candy left.)

Anyway, Tyler and I ended up at McKay and McKenna's for dinner (we had her sister-in-law Heather's delicious tortellini soup), and somehow ended up talking about the sour candy.

McKenna went into her kitchen and pulled out a familiar-looking green package. She had indeed purchased the last package of green sour straws--we had probably missed her at Smith's by about 10 minutes.

(She claims she was just checking to see if there were any sour straws left, that she didn't intend to buy any. But when she saw that there was only one pack left, she knew she had to grab it. I think she would have gotten some anyway. After all, I did.)

Shouldn't I be feeling well-rested

after a two-week long vacation to Texas, the land that I love?

And wouldn't you think that two weeks would be enough to make me feel like I got a good Texas dose? But alas, the more I was there, the more things I wanted to do there. . . and couldn't! (And I realized that the only way to do those things would be to live there.)

Things we did in Texas:

1. Stayed up well past midnight every night
2. Slept in till 10 (or later) almost every day
3. Hung out with my wonderful family (and made friends with step-siblings)
4. Shot off rockets
5. Played with playdough
6. Went shopping!! (I love/miss shopping. It's just not as fun in Utah.)
7. Ate at La Hacienda Ranch, PF Changs, and the Lloyd Bed and Breakfast (and much more!)
8. Tried my mom's new chili recipe (delicious, even though I don't like chili)
9. Read comic books
10. Played on the Wii
11. Played games
12. Changed my name at Bank of America
13. Saw the movie Tron (I loved it. And I loved that it was clean!)
14. Slept in four different houses
15. Got lost on the highways (I really thought I was on 121, not I-35)
16. Watched the Doctor Who Christmas special
17. Reveled in the delicious Texas sunsets
18. Avoided wearing winter coats (though, I may have regretted that decision once or twice)
19. Learned that packing light is much preferable to overpacking, but that even when you overpack, you might still leave your hairbrush at home

And much much more. Really, we had a blast!

But this morning, I was so tired (waking up before 11 will do that to ya), I could not remember my morning routine. I had to talk myself through it.

All in all, I consider the trip a success. But I'm ready for a stay-at home-vacation now.

Happy New Year!!

Somehow I managed to avoid blogging throughout the month of December, but I hope to be better about capturing things in our lives during this brand new year.

Things I learned about myself in 2010:
* I will most likely never be able to blog on a daily basis. (Sorry, folks. November nearly killed me!)
* I do have a little craftiness in me (as in, I can enjoy making crafts), but I have yet to make that a talent of mine.
* I don't ever want pets of my own. (I don't like the maintenance/mess of pets.)
* I have an awesome husband who is the finance budgeting master. (More about Tyler than me, but I did learn it.)
* I am grateful for many things, but I'm not great at expressing my gratitude. (As evidenced by our lack of wedding thank-you cards.)
* I love being in Primary. (I missed my Primary while out in Texas.)
* I really do enjoy cooking--a lot! (I prefer eating in to eating out.)
* I am a trivial-information junkie. (I like to keep up with things that are going on in the world, but not really the important things.)
* Though I may not blog very much, I really enjoy other people's blogs. (I am a lurker.)

And I am really looking forward to the adventures of 2011!

Happy new year to all!!
