Except since I've been pregnant, I can't do meat. Especially not hamburger meat. In fact, thinking about eating hamburgers grosses me out to the nth degree. As a sidenote, sometimes I can eat chicken, but only when it is in small pieces.
Anyway, when our waiter came to take our orders, I decided to go ahead and get what I wanted. "I'm pregnant," I said, "and I know this is weird. I'd like your bleu ribbon burger without the burger." He clarified with me to make sure he got what I was saying, "So no patty, right?" "Right." The waiter, to his credit, didn't make a huge deal about it, but he did let us know that he'd never had a request like that before.
Our food seemed to take forever to get to us (because we were starving; the service at Red Robin in Provo is excellent in my experience). I joked that it was my order that was taking the longest to make. Turns out, I was right. My order threw the cooks for a loop, and they came out of the kitchen to find our waiter and verify the order. They couldn't believe that someone would come to Red Robin to get a burger without the burger.
But I did just that. And when my bleu ribbon hamburger-less hamburger (bleu ribbon sandwich?) came, I was in heaven. It was delicious. Totally hit the spot. I got the exact flavor I was wanting, without the meat I didn't even want to think about eating.
So so so good.
Thank you, Red Robin.

When that cook's wife gets pregnant someday, he will remember you, and understand.
So wonderful that you are moved in! Hope you will do a post about that. I'd love to see your new home.
I LOVE the bleu ribbon burger. It is the best! Glad you got to satisfy that craving!
Can't wait to see the pics of your new place. I am so jealous!!
You should write to Red Robin and tell them about your experience. It is always nice when my boss tells me a customer complimented me. I love how great Red Robin is about specialty orders. I always have odd requests because I'm so picky and I have so many food allergies.
Glad you had a yummy sandwich. And I'm glad you have a nice new apartment with a real bathroom. :)
