For three years, he's been teaching the missionaries there. And he's pretty sad that his time there is over.
It's been a great job for him--he has absolutely loved every minute of it.
We're still hoping that something will work out, allowing him to find another position at the MTC (maybe helping them develop their new curriculum?) But at this point, we don't even know if the MTC will be opening any positions up that Tyler could apply for. And I know that for Tyler, this makes him feel a little antsy because he's unsure of what the future holds for him.
For me, this change is bittersweet. Bitter because I know how much Tyler will miss working at the MTC. Sweet because I'll have a little more time to spend with Tyler (at least on Saturdays).
Someone out there remind me to get some pictures of Tyler at the MTC in his suit with his teaching badge. I know I'll be sad if I forget to capture this part of his personal history. (Even though he has a few pictures he's taken over the years, I'm not sure he's gotten any of himself).
I love this quote on the MTC home page from President Hinckley:
"If you serve a mission faithfully and well, you will be a better husband, you will be a better father, you will be a better student, a better worker in your chosen vocation. Love is of the essence of this missionary work. Selflessness is of its very nature. Self-discipline is its requirement. Prayer opens its reservoir of power."
I love that this is what Tyler loves to do--to help missionaries finish their preparation to serve a faithful mission (the real preparation begins at home). But I'd add that teaching at the MTC develops the same qualities and brings added blessings based on my observations of Tyler, and how he handles himself.
So, in continuation of our life theme (at the moment)--
On to new adventures (though we don't know where they will lead us).

This is sad to me. I have to tell myself he will be back. I really think he will. And yes, please get a picture. So is his last day this week? Or is it already over?
Tomorrow is his last day.
Though when I talked to him, he said he shed a few tears today. Something he loves is how much the missionaries just really want to do what's right and good. And he's going to miss that.
Oh, I am so sorry that this is happening right now. This makes me sad for Tyler and you, even though you will see him more...
Working in the MTC is such a great privilege and blessing. However,
I have to believe that the best things are yet to come. The right thing will happen for Tyler (and you!). We'll keep you both in our prayers.
Love to both of you!
Aunt Mar~
Aww. Don't worry Tyler. Things always work out for the best... in the end... even if it takes weird twists and turns and 7 years of your life to figure it out.. :) Plus, lucky you, you have Karen there to love you and support you in your new endeavors. Love and luck to you both!!
I wonder if Tyler ever met my nephews. The most recent one Nathan Iverson went in early Aug. He's going to Colorado.
There's ALWAYS WORK to do. He'll discover a new endeavor of teaching that will open up a whole new world for him I'm sure. The Lord's work NEEDS Tyler's in His work. Of that, I have no doubt.
Lisa, I'll ask him and let you know.
