I really get what Dilbert must have been feeling. . .

So, let me tell you all a little about what it is that I do at work. . .

I really have a good time, and am SUPER excited to stay there over the summer.

So, my boss, Brad, is a Business Operations Director, and he is in charge of LOTS of things. I don't even know what all that he does. I do know that he is a key player in lots of business decisions, and has been with the company for at least 11 years.

So, there is a website which Novell has created to keep track of resources. And if things aren't in that system correctly, it reflects badly on Brad.

This is where I come in. I have been cleaning up this system and putting new information in. In order to do this, though, I have to contact a TON of people, all over the world. For example, the website, called Clarity, tracks what projects people are allocated to. And it also tracks how much allocation an employee is assigned. They are supposed to be allocated between 90-100% to various projects. Every month, there is a big meeting where this stuff (and a lot of other stuff) has really high visibility.

So I go in and clean it up. But I can't make any changes that I don't know about. For example, if an employee is at 180% allocation, this is a problem. Obviously their max capacity of working on different things is 100%, and lots of managers don't quite understand how this works, so I've been emailing and calling, trying to get a hold of various people to tell me how to adjust the employee's allocation if the manager won't go and do it.

But, these managers are BUSY. They are more concerned about shipping products or lots of other things. So although I've contacted probably 30 or so managers, I've heard back from about 10 0f them? Not many.

So when Brad came in to my office to show me this comic, I immediately understood the corporate humor. It hit SO close to home. We both printed out copies for our offices. Take a look:

SO TRUE!!

OH MY!!! That is so funny!!! Do you think I could put that message on my personal answering machine? LOL! Sometimes I'm not sure why I even have it, because I don't check as often as I probably should.

We're in countdown mode now, right Karen???? :)
